Electrolux washer seal and odor service

The complaint everybody has and nobody mentions until something else needs fixing. A front loader seals tight, which is what lets it wash with so little water and also what traps the water it used. The gasket has a fold at the bottom that holds water, lint and detergent, and in this climate it does not dry between loads on its own. Most of this is maintenance rather than repair, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a part.

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

Dry the fold and look inside it

Pull it open all the way round. What is in there explains the smell in about five seconds.

  2. 02

Run a maintenance cycle empty and hot

With the machine's own cleaning program where it has one, and nothing in the drum.

  3. 03

Check the sump and the drain hose if it persists

Residue sitting below the drum will re-seed the drum every wash, and no amount of cleaning the gasket reaches it.

Applies to

  • A front-load washing machine in a laundry closet with its round door standing open, the gray rubber gasket around the opening plainly visible, tiled floor.

    Electrolux washer repair in Miami

Six machines, and every one of them is a front loader — 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 Series plus a 24-inch compact. This make builds no top-load washer at all, which is the clearest single difference between this badge and the mass-market half of the same group. Laundry is the deep end of this line rather than an afterthought: 22 machines across washers, dryers and towers against six refrigerators. The maker publishes eight washer codes with real procedures behind them, and — worth knowing before you are quoted — three of those eight are installation problems rather than failures.

In more detail

About Electrolux washer seal and odor service

Mostly maintenance, and we will say so

A front loader seals tight, which is what lets it wash with so little water and also what traps the water it used. The gasket has a fold at the bottom that holds water, lint and detergent, and in a laundry closet at this humidity it is still damp when the next load goes in. Most of this is a cloth and a habit rather than a part, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a gasket you do not need.

Questions about Electrolux washer seal and odor service

What actually fixes the smell?

Drying the fold after the last load, leaving the door ajar between washes, and running an occasional empty hot cycle. If it persists after that, residue is sitting in the sump below the drum where no amount of wiping reaches.

Is the smell doing any harm?

To the machine, not much. To the laundry, yes — clothes coming out of a drum that smells will smell, and no amount of detergent covers it.
