# Electrolux refrigerator not cooling

### What to do in the next ten minutes

Stand a thermometer in each compartment and write down both figures, then both again sixty minutes later. If an alert is showing, press clear a single time and photograph the peak temperature — a second press deletes it permanently. Glance at the rear wall inside the fresh-food compartment for anything pressed up against the outlet. Leave the food where it is and leave the cabinet switched on.

### Why we ask for figures instead of a description

Very little is displayed on the front of these cabinets. What the appliance does keep is the peak temperature behind its alert, and what you can supply is a pair of readings an hour apart. Put together they say whether the visit needs a fan and a damper on the van, a defrost kit, or gauges — three different appointments. Working from an account of the noise instead is how a built-in cabinet ends up being drawn out of its opening twice.

### What being fitted in changes

Every French-door cabinet in this line is counter-depth, and the largest are columns sitting behind trim kits. That means one defined air route, usually through a grille nobody has looked at since the joinery went in, and a cabinet that must come forward before anything behind it can be measured at all. Both belong in the booking rather than as a surprise on the day.

Cold is not being carried across

The fan that moves air between the two compartments has slowed or stopped, or a damper is stuck. The freezer carries on normally and the fresh-food side climbs — far and away the most frequent version of this.

The defrost cycle is not finishing

The evaporator accumulates ice until air can no longer pass through it. In a full-height column that accumulation starts at floor level and surfaces late, which is why owners describe this as having happened overnight.

Heat is not leaving the cabinet

Behind a trim kit, or scribed into a counter-depth opening, there is exactly one route in and out — and in coastal air it silts up. The compressor never stops and the cabinet loses ground anyway.

Two compartments, two thermometers, sixty minutes

Establishing which half is failing determines everything that comes after, and it costs nothing but an hour.

One press of clear, then photograph the peak

It is the cabinet's own record of how bad things got, and it also decides what happens to the food.

Look at the interior vents and the exterior grille

Something stacked against the outlet inside, or a grille that has closed up outside. Both produce precisely this and both are free.

It is running, the light works, and the food is warm

What it usually means

Freezer cold, fresh-food side warm: that is airflow rather than refrigerant

Press clear once and photograph the peak figure it shows you

A counter-depth cabinet breathes through one route, and that route is often it

### Should I empty it?

Shift anything genuinely perishable into a cooler once the fresh-food side passes 40 °F, and leave everything else alone. A loaded cabinet holds its temperature better than a bare one, so clearing it protects the contents and does nothing for the machine.

### Yesterday it was fine. Can it go that quickly?

It can, and the abrupt ones tend to be the inexpensive ones — a motor that seized in the night, a heater that opened, a door propped by a carton. A gradual slide over several weeks is the version that more often finishes at the sealed system.
