# Electrolux microwave not heating

### What to do in the next ten minutes

Heat a cup of water for one minute and see whether it is even slightly warmer — that distinguishes no heat from weak heat. Check the door closes square against the cabinet. Then stop: there is nothing else worth doing from outside this appliance.

### Why the repair-or-replace answer is different here

For a countertop microwave the arithmetic is simple: replacement costs less than a service call. This maker builds no countertop microwave. What it sells is two built-in units and an over-the-range convection model, and a built-in has to match an existing opening and trim kit from a line of three models. ‘Just replace it’ can mean re-cutting cabinetry, which is why repairing a built-in microwave is usually the right call and almost never is for a counter unit.

The high-voltage section has failed

Magnetron, diode or capacitor. All of them are inside the part of the appliance nobody should open.

A door interlock is not closing

Three switches have to agree before the unit will run, and a door slightly out of square gives no heat with no other symptom.

The unit is in a demo or lock mode

Worth ruling out on a built-in that has just been installed, and it costs nothing.

One minute on a cup of water

No heat at all and weak heat are different problems.

Check the door for square

A visible gap toward the top or the handle side is a hinge and it is measurable.

Everything behind the inner panel is a technician's job. This is not caution for its own sake.

The turntable turns and nothing gets hot

What it usually means

Turntable turning with no heat splits the machine cleanly in two

Never open one — the capacitor holds a lethal charge after unplugging

On a built-in, repair is usually right because replacement means the opening

### Is it dangerous to keep using?

A microwave that does not heat is not dangerous to leave unplugged, and that is what we would do. A microwave that runs with a damaged or misaligned door should be unplugged and left alone.

### Can I get the magnetron and fit it myself?

Please do not. The capacitor in these holds a charge that has killed people who knew what they were doing. It is the one repair on this whole site we will not talk anybody through.
