# Electrolux ice maker not making ice

### What to do in the next ten minutes

Check the freezer is genuinely at 0 °F — the module will not cycle if it is warmer than about 10 °F. Make sure the wire arm or the sensor is not switched off, and that the bin is seated fully home. Put a glass under the water dispenser: if the water is slow too, the problem is upstream of the ice maker.

### Why we ask about the water first

An ice maker is a mold, a valve, a heater and a motor, and only one of those four is expensive. The valve and everything upstream of it account for most of what stops ice being made, and all of it is testable in one cycle with a measuring jug. Starting at the mechanism means dismantling the expensive end to rule out the cheap one.

Water is not reaching the mold

A filter past its life, a shutoff barely open, or a line kinked behind a built-in cabinet. The dispenser being slow at the same time proves it.

The freezer is not cold enough to harvest

The module has its own thermostat and will simply wait. A cabinet drifting for another reason presents as an ice complaint first.

The module itself has failed

Thermostat, heater or motor. On the older 15-inch unit these are still serviceable parts with a channel behind them.

Check the water dispenser at the same time

Slow water and no ice is one restriction and one visit.

Confirm the freezer temperature

Above about 10 °F the module will not cycle at all, and nothing is wrong with it.

Look at the arm or sensor and the bin seating

Both switch the module off deliberately, and both get knocked.

The bin is empty and stays empty

What it usually means

Half of these are water arriving, not the mechanism failing

The module inside a cabinet and the older 15-inch unit are different jobs

A freezer above 10 °F will not let the module harvest at all

### How long should it take to fill a bin?

Most of a day from empty. These modules make a batch every couple of hours, and a household that has just discovered the ice is gone usually has not waited long enough to judge.

### It stopped after we were away for two weeks.

Very common. Cubes part-thaw and refreeze into one mass around the auger, and the module stops because the bin reads full. Empty and thaw the bin before assuming anything failed.
