# Electrolux ice cubes small or hollow

### What to do in the next ten minutes

Run the water dispenser into a jug for ten seconds and see how much you get. If it is noticeably slow, the ice and the water share one restriction. Check when the filter was last changed, and whether the shutoff valve is fully open.

### Hollow cubes are a measurement, not a mystery

The mold gets a fixed number of seconds of water and then freezes for a fixed time. Give it less water in those seconds and it freezes a shell around an empty middle, which is exactly what a hollow cube is. That makes this one of the few appliance symptoms that gives you a genuine quantitative reading: how much water arrives in ten seconds tells you almost everything before anybody opens anything.

The filter is past its life

The most frequent cause by a wide margin, and the easiest to rule out.

The supply is restricted before the appliance

A saddle valve silted up, or a line pinched behind a cabinet that was pushed back into its opening.

The fill valve is weak

A valve that opens partially passes less in the same time, and the result is identical to a blocked filter.

Ten seconds into a measuring jug

It is the whole diagnosis and it takes ten seconds.

Check the filter date

Six months is the usual life and almost nobody keeps to it.

Throw away the first two batches after any change

Judging new ice on cubes made before the fix is how people conclude nothing worked.

Ice arrives, but it is not right

What it usually means

A timed fill plus a restricted supply gives exactly this

Check the dispenser: slow water confirms it in seconds

The filter is the first thing and often the only thing

### The cubes taste stale as well.

That is the filter too, and often the same filter. Ice absorbs odors readily, and a bin that turns over slowly holds them.

### Could it be the water pressure in the building?

It can be, particularly in a tower during peak hours. If the kitchen tap is also weak at the same times, that is worth establishing before the appliance is blamed.
