# Electrolux gas burner will not light

### What to do in the next ten minutes

Turn the burner off. Lift the cap and check it sits square — it only goes on one way and it is easy to get wrong after cleaning. Clear the ports with a pin rather than a brush. Try another burner to confirm the igniter module is working.

### Why the smell of gas changes the advice

Everything on this page assumes you can smell nothing. If you can smell gas — at the appliance, in the cabinet below, anywhere in the room — stop, turn the supply off at the valve, open a window, and do not operate any switch. That is not a repair question and this is not the page for it. Call the utility’s emergency line first and us afterwards.

The cap is not seated

After a clean, and the commonest cause. The flame cannot establish across a cap that is a millimeter out.

The ports are blocked

Boil-over, then heat, then carbon. A pin clears them; a brush moves the debris around.

The igniter or its switch has failed

Where nothing clicks at all on any burner, it is the module or the supply rather than one burner.

Lift and re-seat the cap

Free, thirty seconds, and it is frequently the whole answer.

Clear every port with a pin

A partly cleared burner lights unevenly and gets blamed on the igniter.

Test another burner

It separates one burner from the whole module immediately.

It clicks and clicks and nothing happens

What it usually means

Clicking means the igniter is fine — look at the gas and the ports

A burner cap seated slightly off after cleaning is very common

All burners clicking when one is turned is normal on these

### All the burners click when I turn one.

That is normal on these. The module fires every igniter and only the burner with gas lights.

### It lights and then goes out after a few seconds.

Different problem, and usually the flame sensor or the thermocouple — the burner lights and nothing confirms it, so the gas is shut off again.
