# Electrolux water dispenser and filter service

### Slow water and hollow ice are one problem

They share a supply, so a restriction anywhere in the chain produces both at once — and recognizing that turns two service calls into one. The chain runs from a shutoff somebody fitted behind a cabinet years ago, through a filter, to the valve on the appliance, and about half of it is behind joinery on a built-in unit. That is why this is priced as its own job rather than as something added to an ice maker repair.

Change the filter and run it through properly

Several quarts, not a glass. Air in a new filter gives exactly the sputtering people describe as a broken dispenser.

Check the supply at the valve, not at the door

A saddle valve barely open or a line kinked behind the cabinet restricts everything downstream and looks like a dispenser problem from the front.

Look at the housing and its seals

A filter head that has been cross-threaded once will never seal properly again, and it is a part rather than a technique.

Test the ice at the same time

They share a supply. Fixing the water and leaving the ice half-filled means a second call for the same restriction.

### How often should the filter be changed?

Every six months is the usual life and almost nobody keeps to it. If the water has slowed noticeably or the ice has started coming out small, it is overdue regardless of the date.

### The new filter made it worse.

Air in a fresh filter gives exactly the sputtering people describe as a broken dispenser. Run several quarts through it — not a glass — before judging it.
