# Electrolux washer spin and balance repair

### Refusing to spin is the machine working

A front-load drum at full speed with an unbalanced load can move the whole machine, so the control counts attempts, redistributes, and eventually completes at a lower speed or not at all. That is a protection doing its job. It also means a washer that spins a quarter-load perfectly and a full one not at all is telling you about its suspension or its floor rather than about its motor — and in a second-story laundry closet it is what stands between you and a conversation with the neighbors.

What this involves

Refusing to spin an unbalanced load is correct behaviour, not a failure

Spins small loads but not large ones points at the suspension

On an upper floor the neighbors notice this before the owner does

Check the machine is level under load, not empty

A washer leveled empty on a slightly soft floor is not level with 4.5 cubic feet of wet laundry in it.

Test with a deliberately small load

If it spins perfectly at a quarter full, the mechanism is fine and the suspension is what we are talking about.

Check the door lock before the motor

The machine will not spin at all without a confirmed lock, and a lock failure presents as a spin failure more often than people expect.

### How do I check it is level?

With weight in the drum, not empty. A machine set level on a slightly soft upper floor is not level with four and a half cubic feet of wet laundry in it.

### It spins if I rearrange the load by hand.

Then the mechanism is sound. If that is needed every single time, the suspension has worn and it is worth looking at before it becomes a bearing conversation.
