# Electrolux washer door lock repair

### We will not bypass this one

On a front loader the door lock is not a convenience. It is what stands between a drum turning at full spin speed and the room the machine is in, and the control will not start a cycle without a confirmed lock. When the lock is the failed part it gets replaced rather than defeated — a machine that can be opened mid-spin is a machine nobody should own. The good news is that the most common cause of both codes here costs nothing at all.

What this involves

E41 is the switch; E42 is the lock. Same symptom, different parts

A towel corner in the seal is the most common cause of both

This is not a lock to defeat, and we will not defeat it

Close the door deliberately and listen for the click

A door that seats without clicking is the problem itself rather than a symptom of one.

Run a hand round the whole seal

A corner of fabric in the gasket does an excellent impression of a closed door, and it is the first thing to rule out.

Check the striker and latch for play

Years of the door being pulled shut moves both, and a lock that cannot find home is mechanical rather than electrical.

### What is the free cause?

A corner of a towel or a sock caught in the seal, doing an excellent impression of a closed door. Run a hand all the way round the gasket before anything else.

### My laundry is locked in.
