### The damage is usually done after the jam

A cube wedged in the chute is a ten-minute clearance. An auger bent by somebody forcing the paddle against that jam is a part, a visit and a wait. This maker publishes a code for the condition — DI SP — precisely because it is common enough to warrant one, and all three causes it names are about a bin that stood still: light use, temperature swings, a power cut. In a region with summer outages that makes this seasonal rather than occasional.

Motor running with nothing delivered is the flap or the linkage. Nothing running at all is the motor, its switch or the control.

Check the flap seals when it closes

A flap held fractionally open by ice frosts the whole chute and repeats the jam within days.

### Can I pour hot water down the chute?

Please do not. It refreezes lower down and makes the jam worse. Take the bin out and thaw it away from the appliance instead.

Then something structural is behind it — a bin that is not seating fully, a flap that no longer seals, or a cabinet cycling in temperature. All three are findable and none of them is the ice itself.
