# Electrolux dryer drum, belt and roller repair

### The noise names the part

A rumble that rises with load is rollers. A squeal is the idler. A thump once per revolution is the belt or something flat-spotted. A motor running with a still drum is a belt that has snapped or jumped off. Describing the sound rather than its volume gets the right parts onto the van, and on a machine of any hours they are replaced as a set, because belt, rollers and idler have had exactly the same life.

What this involves

The noise identifies the part before anything is opened

Belt, rollers and idler are replaced together on a high-hour machine

On a stacked pair or a tower, access is most of the work

Turn the drum by hand with the power off

Free and quiet is a belt. Gritty or notchy is rollers. It takes one turn.

Describe the noise rather than its volume

Rumble, squeal or thump. Three different parts, and the description gets the right one on the van.

Replace the wear set together on an older machine

Belt, rollers and idler have had the same life. Doing one and leaving two is a second visit's labor for nothing.

### Why replace all three?

Because the access is the job. Doing one of three and returning twice for the others is two visits' labor spent for no additional benefit.

### Is it different on a stacked pair?

Only in getting to it, and that is most of the work. On a tower the two halves share one cabinet and the planning matters more than the parts.
