# Electrolux appliance installation

### Five of this maker's own codes are installation problems

That is an unusual number and it is worth taking seriously. Crossed washer hoses, a kinked drain, a reversed-hose detection, a dryer wired to the wrong terminals, a vent run that cannot move air — the manufacturer publishes a code for each and sends every one of them back to whoever fitted the machine. On a badge where the ordinary installation is a built-in one, into an opening a joiner scribed, the difference between a machine that merely works and one that was fitted properly shows up years later as a service call.

What this involves

Built-in work: trim kits, openings, clearances and air paths

Five of this maker's published codes are installation problems, not failures

Supply, drain and vent checked and documented rather than assumed

Confirm the opening before the appliance is moved

Width, depth, and the clearance the manufacturer asks for. An appliance that fits the opening but not the clearance will work and then fail, and it will fail as a machine problem rather than an installation one.

Supplies, and which way round they go

Hot to hot and cold to cold on a washer — this maker publishes a code for getting that wrong, and another one for the machine detecting it itself. It takes a minute to do right and it is a recurring call when it is not.

Level, and level under load

A front loader that is level empty and not level full will walk, and a counter-depth refrigerator that is out of level will not seal its own doors.

Run it before leaving

A full cycle, or a pull-down to temperature. An installation that is signed off without running the appliance is a visit that has not finished.

### Do you install appliances you did not supply?

Yes. Most of what we fit was bought elsewhere, and a good share of what we are called to afterwards is somebody else's installation rather than the appliance.

### What do you need to know before quoting?

What it is going into: a gap between units, an opening cut for it, or a trim kit. Those are three different half-days, and a photograph settles it before anybody quotes.
